The Cape Cod Chamber music festival is back this summer, bringing live chamber music to various Cape Cod locations for two weeks in August. Each show will begin at 5 p.m. and run 60 to 80 minutes without an intermission, except the Aug. 16 concert that’s free and open to the public at the Cape Cod National Seashore.

“The atmosphere of ‘collective effervescence’ experienced in our audiences last season was a welcome respite from the pandemic, as we once again gathered together to enjoy exceptional live music,” said festival co-artistic director Jon Manasse, in a statement. “In response, we’ve expanded our concert offerings this year.”

Highlights of this year’s festival include the Ariel and Verona string quartets teaming up for a performance of Mendelssohn’s “Octet” and Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring,” plus an award-winning all-female brass quartet performing works by female composers.

Since its founding in 1979, the festival has brought chamber music performed by top musicians from around the world to Cape Cod each summer. Chamber music is instrumental music played by a small ensemble, like a string quartet. The festival’s current artistic directors are Jon Manasse (clarinetist) and Jon Nakamatsu (pianist).
