After delaying several 2020 tour dates due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Who have announced a brand new 2022 tour that will bring them to Boston this spring.

Lead singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend will perform at TD Garden on Wed., May 18, as part of the band’s “The Who Hits Back!” tour, which was announced by the band Monday morning. The eight-month North American tour kicks off April 22 in Florida and wraps up in early November in Las Vegas.

“Pete and I said we’d be back, but we didn’t think we’d have to wait for two years for the privilege,” Daltrey said in a press release announcing the tour. “This is making the chance to perform feel even more special this time around. So many livelihoods have been impacted due to COVID, so we are thrilled to get everyone back together: the band, the crew and the fans. We’re gearing up for a great show that hits back in the only way The Who know how. By giving it everything we’ve got.”

The Who are no strangers to Boston, having most recently played dates in the city at Fenway Park in 2019 and TD Garden in 2016.

Along with founding members Daltrey and Townshend, The Who will be touring with its full live band, which features guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, second keyboardist Emily Marshall, bassist Jon Button, drummer Zak Starkey and backing vocals by Billy Nicholls, along with orchestra conductor Keith Levenson, principal violinist Katie Jacoby and principal cellist Audrey Snyder. According to a press release, The Who plan to play a set featuring many of their classics, as well as cuts off their most recent album, “WHO.”

Tickets go on sale to the public beginning Friday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. at Before that, the American Express Card Member pre-sale starts Monday at 10 a.m., and the Who Fan Club pre-sale starts on Wednesday, February 9 at 10 a.m.
