Mykal Kilgore has many accomplishments on his resume. He’s been in a bunch of Broadway musicals, including “Motown: the Musical” and “Hair.”
And he’s a musician who was nominated for the Grammy for the Best Traditional R&B Performance for his single “Let Me Go” in 2021, the first openly gay man to receive that honor, according to Broadway World. The single was off of Kilgore’s first album, “A Man Born Black.”
For those interested in seeing Kilgore live, he’s set to take the City Winery stage on Feb. 10 with two performances — one at 5 p.m. and one at 8 p.m.
Kilgore just released a new single, “The Man in the Barbershop,” his first release since his Grammy nomination.
His music explores many different genres, including gospel and soul, plus country, according to Broadway World.
“Mykal uses his platform to function as a change agent for civil rights as well as issues affecting the LGBTQIA community,” the publication said.
On his newest single, Kilgore says it came from “my adoration for Black men.”
“Being in a Barbershop is like watching butterflies emerging from their chrysalis and I wanted to capture the feeling of seeing someone so beautiful that it inspired dreaming … and song,” he said, according to Broadway World.
