The firearm was found after school staff conducted an administrative search on students, according to BPD. The search was in response to the sale of vape products on school property and not related to the firearm, police said.

The firearm was secured by the school, which police later determined to be a Highpoint 9mm loaded with two rounds of ammunition.

Upon arriving at the high school, police officers took the teenage boy into custody. He will be charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm on school property and unlawful possession of ammunition.
