Whitman teen arrested for allegedly stabbing fellow 16-year-old

The victim required extensive surgery, police say.

Whitman police arrested a 16-year-old boy Sunday night after he allegedly stabbed another 16-year-old, sending him to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the victim was stabbed at the corner of Washington Street and Belcher Drive at about 9 p.m. After undergoing extensive surgery, he is expected to survive, though Whitman Police Chief Scott Benton said in a press conference Monday morning that he “still has a ways to go.”

Benton said the two teens knew each other. Both are Whitman students.

“Last night obviously there was a disagreement of some sort so we’re still trying to get to the bottom of what that was,” he said. “There were other juveniles also there. It wasn’t just the two people.”

The alleged perpetrator is charged with assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, according to a release. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Brockton Juvenile Court.

The incident is under investigation, police say.
